This website serves as a source of information for Iowa State University meteorology students interested in learning how to use and customize the Gibson Ridge Level 2 Analyst Edition radar software.  The files on this site do not encompass all that is available online; these are simply what I have found to be useful.

Manual (PDF)

The original manual was written for use by the Des Moines National Weather Service office.  It has since been used by a number of offices in the NWS Central Region.  This version of the manual has been edited for use by Iowa State meteorology students.

Background Maps

These topographical maps add a bit of visual flavor to the radar display.

Shapefiles

Shapefiles allow you to view "street-level mapping," as it has become known.  Keep in mind that the resolution of the radar bins (each pixel of the radar display) is more coarse than the streets and roads that you see.

Placefiles

Placefiles are used to show a variety of extra information that is not contained truly within the software.  You can display METARs, lightning, SPC watch boxes, etc.

Color Tables & Volume Tables

The different products produced by the radar and by the software can be shown with color tables other than the defaults.
