Columbus gets its first 70-degree day of the year

Spring weather is here… not that we had much of a winter. Columbus hit 70 degrees for the first time this season on Monday, a little ahead of the average date of March 9 (based on the 1991-2020 climate normals).

Last year, we already reached 70 degrees in the second week of February.

The first 70-degree day of the spring shifts every year, of course, but it’s been trending earlier over the years. The green line on top shows a smoothed curve of the average date of the first 70.

It used to be in late March, but it’s quickly heading to the very beginning of March. (Click or tap the image to make it bigger.)

We could eke out another day in the 70s on Tuesday. If so, it’d be the first back-to-back 70s since last fall, on Nov. 8 and 9.
