Forecast highlights

☂️ Humid with some rain/storms this weekend

A stray shower or storm is possible Friday afternoon and evening as a front settles closer to central Ohio. That same front will dangle around all weekend, and a couple of disturbances will ride along it to keep us in off-and-on rain chances. Not ideal for Father’s Day weekend.

Rainfall totals still look to be somewhere in the neighborhood of a half-inch to an inch. How much you get will depend on where the more localized downpours happen to pass. You can see that the potential for over an inch of rain extends southwest down toward Dayton and Cincinnati, as well.

You probably felt the higher humidity today. It’ll come up even further over the next few days, with peak dew points pushing 70 both Saturday and Sunday. We won’t have a high heat index to worry about since temperatures will only max out in the lower 80s, but the higher moisture will drive the potential for locally heavy rain.

Severe thunderstorms remain unlikely.

🌩️ Unsettled next week

Chance-y rain hangs around past the weekend. This looks like the stuff we sometimes see during the summertime: disorganized, scattered, pops up in the afternoon and fades later in the evening. Odds look lower during the nighttime and morning hours.

📊 Friday’s almanac

Normal low/high: 61 / 82
Record low/high: 46 (1903) / 95 (1956)
Sunrise/set: 6:02 a.m. / 9:01 p.m.

🥵 When does Columbus typically first hit 90?

The warmest high so far this year in Columbus is 87, which happened on June 4.

First 90-degree dates:

  • Average: June 10

  • Earliest: April 25, 1915

  • Latest: August 10, 1992

Three-quarters of the time, the first 90-degree day has happened by June 19.

So, we’re about the time that it’d be quite typical to be hitting 90 for the first time. Don’t expect it to happen in the next few days, though.
