Unsettled weather ahead, but not all-day washouts

📺 Programming note: Starting with the next newsletter on Monday, I’m moving to a morning publication time rather than early evening.

The 614cast

Weekend tl;dr

☂️ Scattered showers/storms (mainly afternoon and evening), humid, highs close to 80.

Forecast highlights

🚫 No guarantees for totally dry days

The weather pattern for the next six days or so is, to be honest, annoying. We have a mentionable chance of rain daily through next Thursday, although the likelihood and coverage will vary each day. Plus, the forecast odds are probably going to shift up and down as the position and timing of disturbances and fronts become clearer… hopefully.

So, despite rain chances each day, it’s entirely possible (if not probable!) that you will not have rain at your house on at least one or two of those days. And even on the days you do get rain, it will not rain all day. Afternoons and evenings still seem like the prime timing, at least over the next couple of days.

Local downpours are possible, but severe thunderstorms are not likely.

Here’s the Weather Prediction Center’s breakdown of the odds for getting at least a given amount of rain through Monday morning:

  • 0.10”: 97%

  • 0.25”: 96%

  • 0.50”: 92%

  • 1.00”: 76%

  • 2.00”: 14%

Signs have been pointing to most of the activity lurking in southern Ohio on Monday and Tuesday, so chances those days may hedge downward.

💦 Humid!

Instead of sweater weather, we have sweaty weather. Dew points over the next six days will peak in the neighborhood of 70, which is pushing tropical territory.

This mugginess will drive the potential for locally heavy downpours… and maybe deodorant sales.
