Forecast highlights

⚡ Periods of storms, a few could be heavy & strong

Most of us escaped rain during the daytime yesterday, although we’ll have showers and storms still scattered about the area today. Rain chances drop off later this evening and overnight.

Spotty pop-up storms redevelop tomorrow afternoon and evening but remain disorganized. A line of storms to our west might survive into central Ohio tomorrow night, but how much they’ll hold together is still in question. Until the cold front finally gets through on Thursday, a rain chance lingers… but I wouldn’t be surprised if our odds rapidly drop off after midday.

For that activity tomorrow night, the Storm Prediction Center has western Ohio in a slight risk (level 2/5) of severe storms, with central Ohio in the marginal risk (level 1/5). This assumes it can hold together this far, which is not a guarantee. The main threat, if it materializes, would be gusty winds.

Aside from the severe risk, any storm over the next couple of days still has the potential to drop locally heavy rain thanks to the humid air that’s still around.

🥵 Hot next week

Thursday’s cold front won’t usher in a long-lasting, refreshing change. In fact, our first 90-degree days of the year will be quick on its heels, and we ought to get a few of them.

A big ol’ ridge of high pressure will develop over the Southeast this weekend. Underneath and around it, the heat will be on. I expect a few days’ worth of heat index numbers topping out in the upper 90s.

More on this tomorrow.

🌡️ ‘Show Your Stripes Day’ is coming up

You may have seen images like the one above. The good folks at Climate Central sum up Show Your Stripes Day:

On June 21, join meteorologists, journalists, content creators, climate scientists, and cities around the world for “Show Your Stripes Day” – an event dedicated to growing global awareness about human-caused climate change.

Warming stripes turn climate science into art, sparking conversations about climate change’s cascading impacts to our health and our homes, and what we as a society can do to ensure a sustainable future for the people and places we love.

You can view and download climate stripes for other cities or entire states here. And if you share your climate stripe on social media on Saturday, be sure to tag it with #ShowYourStripes.
